The “Ethics in Psychoanalysis” symposium was held on the 17th and 18th of February 2022 by the Tehran Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in collaboration with the Siavoushan Psychology Center, in an online format. Before the symposium, members of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies participated in refresher sessions on the topic of "Ethics in Psychoanalysis."

During this two-day symposium, multiple sessions were held in the form of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and presentation of article summaries. Internationally renowned figures alongside psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and candidates for psychoanalytic therapy from Iran presented their discussions. The symposium began with a welcome address and explanations by Babak Roshanaie-Moghaddam, the director of the Tehran Center for Psychoanalytic Studies. This was followed by a panel titled "Professional Boundaries in Psychoanalysis: The Role of Institutes," featuring Azadeh Ghaemi, Afshan Gheshghaie, Mahsa Mahmoudi, and Nastaran Seif. The symposium continued with four keynote speeches by Hossein Mojtahedi, Andre Michel (a Lacanian Freudian psychoanalyst who has conducted extensive studies on the works of Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, and Spinoza), Anton Hart (a member of the faculty at the William Alanson White Psychoanalytic Institute), and Farshid Moradian.

The second day of the symposium continued with three-panel discussions. The first panel, titled "A Look at Group Therapy and Psychotherapy in the Virtual Space," featured Hadi Rahimi Danesh and Mali Mann (a clinical professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine and chair of the North American Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Committee) alongside Saeed Debbagh, Hamid Dehghaniyan, and Hossein Bashi. The second panel, titled "Ethics in the Unconscious and Listening Action," involved group discussions led by Soheila Kiani, Shirzad Babaei, Mehrnaz Mirnoush, Ali Hadavand, Meysam Bazani, and Mojtaba Tashkeh. The final group discussion panel also included presentations by Babak Roshanai Moghadam and Mahmoud Dehghani, featuring articles by Vida Mobasher, Afsaneh Roberahan, and Marzieh Rezazadeh. The conclusion of the symposium featured two keynote speeches. First, Andrea Celenza (a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School and supervisor at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute) discussed deviating from sexual boundaries in psychoanalysis. Finally, Hossein Mosbahian, a philosophy professor at the University of Tehran, presented an interdisciplinary discussion titled "From Ethical Philosophy to Ethical Event: Levinas and Other’s primacy."

MohammadHassan DavazdahEmami was the executive director of this symposium and was assisted by Marzieh Naji, Yekta Ghezelloo, Hassan Mashhadi Zadeh, Zakiyeh Louloui, and Sahar Alaei. Excerpts from the articles presented at this symposium will be published in the Siavoushan Quarterly Journal.
